Welcome Mr. Ambassador
13/03/2011Last week the new Indian ambassador in Denmark HE Ashok Kumar Attri and his wife Mrs Usha Attri visited Aarhus. They were on an orientation trip visiting Aarhus University, among other places. Some of our members paid them a visit, and introduced the Indian community in Aarhus. The meeting lasted for more than an hour and during that time both HE Mr and Mrs Attri took a lot of interest in knowing more about the Indian community in Aarhus and other places in Jutland. Both Mrs and Mr Attri emphasized the need of a better collaboration between the local community and the Indian Embassy in Copenhagen.
Ambassador Ashok Kumar Attri came to Denmark in October, 2010 on the tenth overseas diplomatic assignment. He was Consul General of India in Chicago, USA from June 2007 to August 2010. Earlier he was the Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman from 2004 to 2007. He was also the High Commissioner (Ambassador) of India to the Republic of Zambia from 1998 to 2002.
Since joining the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in July 1975, Ambassador Attri has also held several diplomatic assignments in Indian Embassies or High Commissions in Kenya, Zambia, Canada, Vietnam and Switzerland. He also served at Secretariat of the inter-governmental South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), based in Kathmandu, from 1994 to 1998.
In between, Ambassador Attri has served in the Ministry of External Affairs of India as the Deputy Head of the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) Division and as the Head of the Coordination Division. Ambassador Attri was born in Shimla on 5th June 1953 and has an Honours Degree in English Literature, Political Science .
